Each day's ride brings new discoveries, from the medieval splendour of Évora to the stunning hilltop village of Monsaraz. Cycle through the beautiful landscapes on smooth tarmac roads adorned with olive groves, vineyards, and fields of sunflowers, experiencing the heart of Alentejo's rural beauty.
We pick you up from Lisbon Airport and transfer you to your hotel approximately 1hour away in the charming and historic town of Montemor-o-Nova famed for its medieval hill top castle. A perfect starting point for the week ahead. Today really is about getting you settled in and set up on the bikes ready for your week of riding. We take in a small loop through country lanes and back to the hotel to ensure your bike setup is perfect.
We leave the charming town of Montemor-o-Nova behind us and cycle across the rolling countryside through vineyards and the cork oak forests, a great way to find your cycling legs with nothing too challenging but none the less a spectacular day. The route takes you in a northerly direction along the famous N2 before heading east taking in some whitewashed traditional villages nestled in the countryside before heading to the captivating and historic city of Evora, its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dates back over two millennia. A perfect location to soak up the vibrancy and culture of the Alentejo region.
The days riding is a anticlockwise circular loop starting and finishing in the beautifully historic city of Evora. This gives you more time to soak in the atmosphere and explore the historic centre after the ride. The route rolls through the cork oak forests and white washed villages where we take in some rolling climbs and beautiful smooth descents before we have a beautiful lunch in one of the traditional villages before rolling back in to Evora.
We leave the UNESCO world heritage city of Evora and head off in a south easterly direction taking in the 13th century Castelo de Valongo along with rolling vineyards and olive groves, a relatively easy rolling day where we stop in the charming village of Reguengos de Monsaraz for a refreshing break before heading onto our final destination of Monseraz the approach is dominated by the iconic medieval castle perched on the hill. Well worth exploring the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Today’s route starts by descending down from the charming hilltop town then onto the rolling terrain towards the village of Rodondo where we take in some refreshments and traditional food before continuing our journey up through the forests, we take in some gentle climbs to get the legs warmed before we climb a stunning 4km climb with an average gradient of 5% to what is a beautiful panoramic view at the top. We then have a beautiful sweeping descent of 7km to enjoy, its simply breathtaking before rolling into our evening location of Estremoz a historic town known for its striking marble buildings and castle.
The route takes you on an anticlockwise loop through the rolling vineyards and olive groves, passing through Alandroal known for its Moorish heritage and medieval castle. As you continue north, we have a stunning stop in the beautiful town of Vila Vicosa celebrated for its grand ducal palace and beautiful gardens, definitely worth a stop here to enjoy the views. Continuing north into the town of Borba which is renowned for its wine production before we head back into Estremoz for some post ride refreshments.
A wonderful start to the day with a long rolling descent after leaving Estremoz, the route meanders through the olive groves and forests before entering the charming town of Fronteira for a refreshing café stop to sample some of the local delights. After leaving Fronteira the route heads in a westerly direction to the lakeside town of Benavila before heading north along the lake and heading back inland to the breathtaking vistas of Alto de Chao.
