Over Eager In Spring
Well after heading out at the weekend over one of my favourite climbs in Bolton (Sheep House Lane) I quickly realised 2 things it wasn’t the best weather to be heading into the hills and secondly the roads are still wet damp and dirty from the winter months, there I was thinking spring was well and truly here with the warmer temperatures….. may need to give it a couple more weeks.
Cleaning The Bike…Even When You Don’t Want To
However; it was good to get out and spin the legs but it left my bike in sorry state when I got back.
Quite often it is the last thing you want to do but cleaning down your bike at this time of year is super important. I always try and have my bike ready to go…. you never know when you might be able to fit an impromptu ride in.
My Cleaning Routine
So here’s my 5min routine which leaves my bike clean dry ready for my next ride.
Whilst bike is till wet rinse and spray with bike cleaner the bike and components, I use Muc Off (but also used Fairy liquid before now) and clean frame down with warm water. Wash from front to back in a methodical manner and don’t forget to include your bike rims and braking surfaces as they pick up a tonne of grease and dirt which will only scratch and erode the rims. Spray your cassette and drive chain with degreaser and clean (chain cleaners are a good option here) and I fold over a rag to clean in between the cassette teeth.
For your rims start at the valve and work round so you know which bit you have done.
Dry your frame off with soft dry cloth.
Lube your chain up and you are go to go.
